Michael B. Jordan Defends Jonathan Majors: Would Work Together Again
Michael B. Jordan told GQ magazine as part of a new cover story that he is more than open to working with Jonathan Majors again. Jordan directed Majors in “Creed III,” which starred the latter as the aggressive and antagonistic boxer Damian “Diamond Dame” Anderson. Majors earned strong reviews for the role, with Jordan equally earning praise for making his feature directorial debut with the threequel. The movie was a box office hit, grossing $276 million worldwide to become the top earning “Creed” movie. Then controversy struck when Majors was arrested on domestic violence allegations a few weeks after “Creed III” opened in theaters.
Majors was ultimately convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in December 2023. It was a blow to his career, which had been skyrocketing at the start of 2023 with villain roles in both “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” Marvel quickly cut ties with Majors after his conviction, and Searchlight dropped the release of his Oscar contender “Magazine Dreams.” Jordan told GQ it was a “tough situation” to watch unfold.
“But he’s doing great, just got engaged,” Jordan added of Majors. “I’m proud of his resilience and his strength through it all, and [his] handling [of] it. I’m glad he’s good. That’s my boy.”
When asked if he would work with Majors again, Jordan answered: “Yes. Yes.”
In December 2023, a six-person jury found Majors guilty of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault. The actor was acquitted on two other counts: intentional assault in the third degree and ggravated harassment in the second degree.
Majors was arrested in March 2023 in New York City after he assaulted Grace Jabbari in the backseat of a private vehicle. Jabbari, a 30-year-old choreographer who met Majors on the set of Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” testified she grabbed Majors’ phone after seeing a text message from another woman. Jabbari described that as Majors attempted to forcefully retrieve his phone from her, she felt “a hard blow” across her head that resulted in bruising, swelling and substantial pain.
The actor was sentenced in April 2024 to one year of domestic violence counseling. Majors is now aiming for a comeback as “Magazine Dreams,” the Sundance drama Searchlight Pictures bought in a six-figure deal and then dropped after he was accused of assault, is now getting a March 21 theatrical release from new distributor Briarcliff Entertainment.
