Martin Short Wins SAG Award for Best Actor in Comedy Series
Beloved comedian actor Martin Short has finally won his first SAG Award. Short received the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series for playing Oliver Putnam, the sometime Broadway director and murder-solving podcast co-host on the Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building.”
Unfortunately, Short couldn’t attend the ceremony, so presenters Joey King and Jack Quaid accepted on his behalf.
Short finally won the prize for “Only Murders” after also landing nominations in the male comedy actor category in 2022 and 2023. Short was also nominated this year along with the “Only Murders in the Building” cast for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, alongside Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, Michael Cyril Creighton, Zach Galifianakis, Richard Kind, Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.
Short has earned three consecutive Emmy niminations in the lead comedy actor category for the role, as well as four consecutive Golden Globe noms. This now puts him among the frontrunners for this year’s Emmy race in the comedy actor category.
In winning the SAG Award, Short beat out competitors including last year’s winner, Jeremy Allen White (for playing Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on FX’s “The Bear”), Adam Brody (for playing Noah Roklov on Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This”), Ted Danson (for playing Charles Nieuwendyk on Netflix’s “A Man on the Inside”) and Harrison Ford (for playing Paul on Apple TV+’s “Shrinking”).
Short, of course, is known for a wide body of work that includes “SCTV,” “Father of the Bride,” “Three Amigos,” “Damages” and more. “Only Murders” has already been renewed for a Season 5.
