Warner Bros.’ “A Minecraft Movie” continues its domination at the U.K. and Ireland box office, topping the chart for a fourth straight weekend with £2.4 million ($3.3 million), according to Comscore. The film has amassed $68.7 million to date, firmly establishing itself as one of the biggest hits of 2025.
Close behind, Warner Bros.’ “Sinners” maintained its momentum, earning $3.2 million in its second weekend for a $9.6 million total.
In third place, the reissue of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith” from 20th Century Fox delivered a powerful showing earning $2.3 million over the weekend.
Another Warner Bros. title, “The Accountant 2,” opened in fourth with $1.2 million. The sequel to the 2016 action thriller, starring Ben Affleck, launched solidly ahead of the May blockbuster season.
Event cinema continued to prove popular, with “Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII” from Trafalgar Releasing landing in fifth place with $905,671. The remastered concert film celebrates the legendary band’s iconic 1971 performance in the historic Roman amphitheater.
Sony Pictures’ horror title “Until Dawn” debuted in sixth place with $752,776. “The Penguin Lessons” from Lionsgate U.K. slipped to seventh, adding $531,334 in its second weekend for a running total of $2.9 million.
Disney’s “The Amateur” continued its steady performance, earning $387,707 in its third weekend. The espionage thriller has now reached $5.1 million overall.
New entrant “Thudarum,” distributed by RFT Films Ltd, debuted in ninth with 384,346). The Malayalam-language film headlined by Mohanlal attracted a strong turnout, underlining the steady appetite for South Asian cinema in the U.K. and Ireland market.
Rounding out the top 10, A24’s Warfare brought in $376,516 in its second weekend, lifting its total to £$2.1 million.
A busy and varied week of new releases is headed to U.K. and Ireland cinemas, with big studio blockbusters, musical theater, music documentaries, and family favorites all joining the lineup.
Thursday, May 1 sees the arrival of Disney’s highly anticipated “Thunderbolts*,” a superhero ensemble film featuring an all-star cast and set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also on Thursday, CinemaLive presents “Bonnie & Clyde The Musical,” a filmed theater production capturing the drama and romance of the legendary criminal duo’s story, brought to life on stage.
On Friday, May 2 Picturehouse Entertainment releases “Parthenope,: the latest from acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino, starring Celeste Dalla Porta, Gary Oldman, and Stefania Sandrelli. Verve Pictures delivers “Where Dragons Live,” a documentary directed by Suzanne Raes.
From Tull Stories comes German comedy “Two To One,” directed by Natja Brunckhorst and starring Sandra Hüller. BFI Distribution celebrates the 1975 cult film “Slade in Flame,” starring the legendary British rock band Slade. Music fans can also look forward to “Borrowed Time: Lennon’s Last Decade,” a new documentary from Kaleidoscope Entertainment. Directed by Alan G. Parker, the film draws on rare archive footage and interviews to chronicle John Lennon’s creative rebirth during his final years.
Families are catered to as well with “Bluey At The Cinema: Let’s Play Chef Collection,” released by Vue Entertainment.
Finally, Sunday, May 4 sees Fathom Entertainment celebrate one of the greatest comedies of all time with “Monty Python and The Holy Grail” (50th Anniversary).
