Amazon’s ‘Fourth Wing’ TV Series Showrunner Exits

“Anne With an E” creator and “Breaking Bad” writer Moira Walley-Beckett has exited Amazon’s TV series adaptation of “Fourth Wing” after signing on as showrunner last July, Variety has learned.

First put into development in October 2023, the “Fourth Wing” TV series hails from Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. The “Fourth Wing” TV series has not yet been ordered to series and does not have a cast attached to the project.

According to sources close to the project, “Agatha All Along” and “WandaVision” creator Jac Schaeffer is in talks to take over as “Fourth Wing” showrunner after signing an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Based on the best-selling romantasy book series from author Rebecca Yarros, dubbed “The Empyrean” novels, “Fourth Wing” is set inside the brutal world of Basgiath War College, where there is only one rule: graduate or Die. Our protagonist, 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, was always expected to live a quiet life — but she’s sent on an entirely different path when her mother, a general in the military, orders her to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become dragon riders, the elite of Navarre.

Executive producers on “Fourth Wing” include Jordan and Outlier president Elizabeth Raposo, along with author Yarros and Liz Pelletier (head of “Fourth Wing” publisher Entangled Publishing). Outlier Society executive vice president of TV Stefano Agosto will co-executive produce.

Yarros’ “The Empyrean” book series (which is planned to be five books in total) began with the May 2023 release of mega New York Times best-seller “Fourth Wing.” The sequel, “Iron Flame,” hit shelves November 2023, and “Onyx Storm,” the third book in the ongoing series (currently planned as five books) debuted this January. The titles and release dates for the fourth and fifth books have not yet been announced.
