American Cinema Editors forwarded its education initiatives by kicking off its ACE Editing Experience during a panel Sunday at NAB Show in Las Vegas.
ACE past president and current vice president, Oscar-nominated Kevin Tent (“The Holdovers”), related that the program, put together by ACE and the ACE Educational Center, is initially aimed at schools and will give students access to raw dailies on a range shows and movies courtesy of Netflix.
In collaboration with ACE, Netflix is initially providing exclusive access to raw dailies from “The Queen’s Gambit,” black comedy “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” action film “The Old Guard” and non-scripted documentary series “Somebody Feed Phil.”
With the dailies will be video instruction and interviews with the editors of the productions, including Emmy Award-winning editors Michelle Tesoro (“The Queen’s Gambit”), Stuart Bass (“A Series of Unfortunate Events”), Jonathan Cianfrani (“Somebody Feed Phil”) and Emmy and ACE Eddie Award winner Terilyn A. Shropshire (“The Old Guard”).
“We want to thank Netflix, the producers, the showrunners, the directors and cast of these shows for making their dailies available to ACE so we can provide the best possible educational resources to aspiring film editors,” said Tent. “Having such a terrific variety of content to work with is going to make this educational experience incredibly rich for editing students.”
