Anonymous Content, Germany’s BTF Launch Joint Venture

Anonymous Content has partnered with independent production company BTF (Bildundtonfabrik) on a new joint venture in Germany, one of Europe’s leading markets.

The partnership will kick off with Ari Folman’s anticipated next project, “Death and the Penguin,” which is based on a novel by Andrey Kurkov.

BTF is a well-established German banner whose credits include “How to Sell Drugs Online,” “King of Stonks” and “Buba” for Netflix, “Pauline” for Disney+ and “Perfekt Verpasst” for Amazon Prime Video.

Anonymous Content will be able to leverage BTF’s stronghold in the German marketplace, while BTF will tap into Anonymous Content’s ecosystem, in particular the banner’s sales arm AC Studios, to develop and produce premium film and TV projects.

The joint venture in Germany furthers Anonymous Content’s strategy to build alliances with local producers and companies in key territories around the world, including Anonymous Brouhaha in Australia/New Zealand, Anonymous Content Brazil, Anonymous Content España, France-based Anonymous Federation, Anonymous Content Nordic and U.K.-based AC Chapter One.

Anonymous Content’s president of international, David Davoli, will oversee the joint venture alongside BTF principals Matthias Murmann and Philipp Kaessbohrer. Davoli said that BTF “stands at the forefront of a new era of storytelling, unafraid to challenge traditional norms in how stories are told.

“Their independent spirit and willingness to push boundaries make them an invaluable collaborator as we expand our efforts to create compelling content with both local and global impact. Together, we will combine our strengths to craft bold narratives and deliver world-class entertainment to audiences worldwide,” Davoli continued.

In a joint statement, Murmann and Kaessbohrer said the collaboration with Anonymous Content will help “take this step onto the global stage.”

“Anonymous Content is one of the world’s leading independent studios, known for supporting artists and their distinctive visions. This perfectly aligns with our philosophy of creating space for bold ideas and exceptional storytelling,” the pair continued.

Recent AC Intl. projects include “Snow Sister” via Anonymous Content Nordic; “Boy Swallows Universe” with Brouhaha Entertainment; and ”Best Interests” via AC Chapter One. Upcoming AC Intl. titles include sci-fi thriller “Panopticon” via Anonymous Brouhaha, and a documentary series about Brazilian football player Sócrates, directed by Walter Salles, via Anonymous Content Brazil.

Pre-production on Folman’s “Death and the Penguin” is supported by Germany’s Film und Medienstiftung NRW, and is produced with JMAG:productions based in Basel, Switzerland.
