Aziza Scott is the latest actor to join “Italianna,” Universal Pictures and Will Packer Productions‘ upcoming romantic comedy starring Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page.
Scott, who is best known for roles in TV shows like “Home Before Dark,” “The Fosters” and “Insecure,” most recently delivered a standout turn in “One of Them Days,” the hit buddy comedy movie starring Keke Palmer and SZA. In the movie, produced by Issa Rae, Palmer and SZA play best friends in a race against the clock to deliver their rent money, with Scott’s Berniece as one of their most menacing, yet hilarious, hurdles.
Now, Scott brings her comedic chops to “Italianna,” appearing alongside Bailey, Page and Marco Calvani. Directed by Kat Coiro (“Marry Me,” “Matlock”) from a screenplay by Ryan Engle (“Rampage,” “Beast”), the film is based on an original idea by Ryan and Kristin Engle. Plot details, including Scott’s role, are being kept under wraps. “Italianna” will be released theatrically on April 10, 2026.
Will Packer and Johanna Byer will produce the film through Will Packer Productions’ first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Senior EVP Erik Baiers and director of development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio. Alvie Hurtado will oversee the project for Will Packer Productions.
In a recent interview with Variety, Packer described the project as “aspirational,” teasing the target audience he had in mind while developing the movie: a Black woman in the Gen Z age bracket. “I want her to see herself on that screen and believe in the dream and promise of love and greater things beyond our world,” he explained.
Scott is represented by TalentWorks, Neon Kite and Cohen Gardner.
