Benjamin Avila’s ‘The Woman in the Line’ Acquired by FilmSharks

FilmSharks has secured international sales rights for “The Woman in the Line” (“La Mujer de la Fila”), a dramatic thriller from acclaimed Argentine director Benjamín Ávila.

Ávila is best-known for “Clandestine Childhood” (“Infancia Clandestina”), which premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and was Argentina’s official Oscar entry in 2012.

Produced by Mostra (“La Virgen de la Tosquera”) and Buffalo Films (“Una Muerte Silenciosa”), “The Woman in the Line” is based on the real-life story of Andrea Casamento, a working-class widow whose son was imprisoned in post-crisis Argentina. In the film, Andrea — played by Uruguayan superstar Natalia Oreiro — must navigate a dehumanizing prison system, encountering other women in similar battles. Through shared struggle, they spark a quiet but powerful movement for visitation rights, shedding light on systemic injustice.

Oreiro, known for roles in “Infancia Clandestina” and “Wakolda,” is also a celebrated singer and UNICEF ambassador. Alberto Ammann (“Upon Entry”) also stars.

“The Woman in the Line,” set for delivery in the third quarter of 2025, impressed as a project at the Malaga Film Festival and received financial backing from the ministry of culture of the City of Buenos Aires.
