Benson Boone to Receive Champion Award at BMI Pop Awards


BMI announced today that Benson Boone will be honored with the BMI champion award at the 2025 BMI Pop Awards on May 13 at Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The performing rights organization will recognize Boone “as one of today’s most exciting hitmakers,” per Barbara Cane, VP of BMI Worldwide Creative.

“Benson Boone has reshaped the global soundscape of culture and music with an indomitable spirit and love of craft, artistry, and performance,” said Cane. “As one of today’s most exciting hitmakers, Benson inspires through his honest storytelling which is ignited by his passion and authenticity. We’re excited to recognize Benson as a BMI Champion while celebrating the achievements of all our award-winning songwriters and publishers we are privileged to represent.”

The BMI Pop Awards will also recognize the pop song of the year, songwriter of the year, publisher of the year and BMI’s 50 most-performed pop songs in the U.S. of the previous year will also be named. The private event will be hosted by BMI president and CEO Mike O’Neill, VP; Creative, NY Samantha Cox; VP, Creative, LA Tracie Verlinde; and Cane.

Over the last year, Boone has earned a 2025 Grammy nomination for best new artist, and was named newcomer of the year by Variety Hitmakers in 2024. Boone is continuing to reach new heights this year, with the release of his latest single “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else,” his upcoming Coachella debut, and a new album arriving this summer.

In receiving this honor, Boone joins previous BMI champion award recipients including Peso Pluma, SZA, Jonathan McReynolds, Khalid, Mark Ronson, Residente, Sebastian Krys, Keith Urban, Lee Thomas Miller, who were honored for their commitment and efforts supporting the next generation of songwriters and music makers.
