‘Dune’ Producer Legendary Elevates Di Mu to CEO of China Division


Legendary Entertainment has tapped longtime exec Di Mu as CEO of Legendary East, the company’s China-based promotion and marketing division.

The seasoned industry veteran, who previously served as executive VP of marketing, will continue spearheading the company’s strategic marketing efforts for Legendary and third-party content in the territory. Mu will report directly to Legendary CEO Joshua Grode.

Mu, who joined Legendary in 2016, brings over 22 years of experience in film marketing, creative advertising, and integrated media strategy to the role. During her tenure, she has overseen 12 film campaigns in China, generating box office grosses exceeding $1.34 billion.

Her track record includes “Warcraft,” which set records as the highest-grossing imported film at the time of its release; “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” 2024’s top imported film in China; and “A Minecraft Movie,” which continues its theatrical run as 2025’s leading Hollywood import in the territory. She has also led campaigns for “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and both “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two.”

The promotion comes as the “Dune” producer rides a box office streak. Following the company’s most successful year to date in 2024, during which its lifetime box office revenue surpassed $20 billion, “A Minecraft Movie” recently scored the biggest debut for a video game adaptation in history, earning more than $900 million globally and becoming 2025’s second highest-grossing film.

The executive move follows Legendary’s management buyout of its remaining equity interest in 2024 and is now solely owned by management and Apollo.

“Di Mu has been an invaluable member of Legendary East playing an integral role in the execution of the local marketing campaigns of our successful films in China,” Grode said. “Her knowledge of the local market combined with her creativity and leadership skills make her an ideal leader for our next chapter in the region.”

Legendary’s upcoming slate includes “Dune: Part Three,” along with the live action-animation hybrid comedy “Animal Friends,” starring Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, and Dan Levy; a film adaptation of “Street Fighter”; an untitled Alejandro G. Iñárritu project with Tom Cruise; and a new entry in the MonsterVerse franchise.

On the television front, the company’s current and upcoming series include “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” (Apple TV+), “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” (Netflix), “Dune: Prophecy” (HBO/Max), Emmy winner “Drops of God” (Apple TV+), “Vanda” (Hulu), and thriller “You Would Do It Too” (Disney+, Apple TV+).
