Former Studio Creative Exec Mike Southerly Sets Film Directorial Debut

Former 20th Century Fox creative executive Mike Southerly will make his feature film writing and directorial debut with “Where We Meet.”

The indie romantic comedy, from Fishbowl, will star Madison Shamoun and Jake Short.

The official logline of “Where We Meet” reads, “When a Black conservative (Shamoun) and a white liberal (Short) meet by chance on an LA hiking trail, their ideological differences challenge everything they knew about themselves and turns an ordinary day into a winding, emotional journey. One that challenges their beliefs, sparks an unexpected connection and changes them both in ways they never imagined.”

Southerly has more than 30 years of experience in motion picture advertising. As executive vice president of creative advertising at 20th Century Fox, he spearheaded global campaigns for “The Simpsons Movie” and the “X-Men” franchise. He also held a lead position at Trailer Park before joining forces with Jim Hale at Fishbowl in 2023.

Shamoun is best known for starring in the Tubi series, “Z Suite”, alongside Lauren Graham, the Amazon series “The Lake” opposite Julia Stiles and Jordan Gavaris and a recurring role on The CW’s “All American.”

Short starred alongside Will Arnett in the BBC comedy “The First Team.” His credits also include “Supercool” opposite Damon Wayans Jr., Hulu’s “Sex Appeal,” teen comedy “#ROXY” alongside Booboo Stewart and Danny Trejo and fellow Disney alum David Henrie’s directorial debut “This Is the Year.” Short’s breakout was in Robert Rodriguez’s family comedy “Shorts.”

Rounding out the “Where We Meet” cast are Susan Ruttan, Stephanie Drake, Brock Yurich, Tory Trowbridge, Ben Onyx Dowdy, Jonathan Fishman, Lyric Monet Page, Jim Cody Williams and Kim Yarbrough.
