A film adaptation of 2024 novel “Georgie, All Along” is in the works at Daryl Steiger‘s newly launched romance-focused production company A Cup of Happy Productions.
From bestselling author Kate Clayborn, “Georgie, All Along” follows longtime personal assistant Georgie Mulcahy, who has made a career out of putting others before herself.
Per the book’s synopsis, “When an unexpected upheaval sends her away from her hectic job in L.A. and back to her hometown, Georgie must confront an uncomfortable truth: her own wants and needs have always been a disconcertingly blank page. But then Georgie comes across a forgotten artifact—a ‘friendfic’ diary she wrote as a teenager, filled with possibilities she once imagined. To an overwhelmed Georgie, the diary’s simple, small-scale ideas are a lifeline—a guidebook for getting started on a new path.”
“Georgie, All Along,” which won best romance novel at the 2024 Libby Book Awards, will be adapted for the screen by Sawyer Perry, who has developed projects with Warner Bros. and Disney and whose original YA feature was featured in the 2020 Sundance Producer Lab. Former Color Force executive Allison Friedman (“The Mortuary Collection,” “The Martian,” “Crazy Rich Asians”) is attached to produce.
Founded by longtime entertainment attorney Steiger, A Cup of Happy Productions is a female-led banner with the “sole intent to create romance films and television series that see, support and understand female audiences.”
The new production company is seeking to work with primarily romance authors and is currently in negotiations to option two more acclaimed romance novels.
“I’m thrilled to introduce A Cup of Happy Productions to the world,” Steiger said. “Our slate will have a throughline of warm, charming, kind and cozy stories, with films and series that will capture the magic of romance novels and the spice that readers adore. As an avid reader myself, I know how important it is to approach beloved novels with tact and care, and I can’t wait to bring these stories to life.”
Steiger is an entertainment law attorney, who focuses on film and television development, financing, production and distribution.
