“Chad Powers” is hitting the gridiron this fall.
Glen Powell‘s Hulu comedy about a washed-up football player is releasing on Sept. 30. The “Twisters” star plays bad-boy quarterback Russ Holliday, who goes undercover as the friendlier Chad Powers to restart his career.
Here’s the official logline: “When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”
The half-hour Hulu show, from co-creators and executive producers Powell and Michael Waldron, is based on a 2022 viral comedy sketch from Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning. The video was made by Eli and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions for ESPN+ that saw the younger Manning don a wig and prosthetic nose to go undercover as a walk-on for Penn State University’s football tryouts. Very few of the college football players realized it was 41-year-old Manning, who was launching precision passes down the field, until he removed his disguise at the very end.
The “Chad Powers” cast also includes Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny and Steve Zahn as Jake Hudson.
The Mannings serve as executive producers of “Chad Powers” along with Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown and ESPN. Waldron and Adam Fasullo are executive producing for Anomaly Pictures. Luvh Rakhe will executive produce and Tony Yacenda will serve as director and executive producer. In addition to co-creating and co-writing with Waldron, Powell, executive produces under his co-banner Barnstorm Productions.
