Harrison Ford and Gene Simmons have something to smile about: the legendary actor and the Kiss rocker will both be honored by Operation Smile at the global nonprofit’s annual gala on June 3.
Ford and Simmons are longtime supporters of the organization that provides high-quality, life-saving surgical and healthcare to children in need. They will be feted alongside the Rodosky family, who also have a long history with the nonprofit. Ford will receive the Dr. Randy Sherman Visionary Award, which is named for the late founder of the Southern California chapter; Simmons will receive the Universal Smile Award; and the Rodosky family will be honored with the Philanthropic Leadership Award.
Founded in 1982 by Dr. Bill Magee and Kathy Magee, Operation Smile is a global nonprofit specializing in cleft surgery and care. In 1991, the organization, built on the belief that “safe surgery is not a privilege, but a universal human right,” began expanding its reach in Latin America by training local health professionals and strengthening health systems. The Los Angeles Smile Fiesta will highlight Operation Smile’s impact across twelve countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.
The 300-person floral fiesta will be held at Candela La Brea and emceed by “Extra” host Billy Bush. Brooke Burke, Roma Downey, Christy Hilton, Stan Cook & Sherrie Rose, Jennifer Salke and Veronica Barton-Schwartz will serve as honorary chairs for the gala, which will also feature special performances by Latin beat and soul rock artists Valeria Mason, Carmit Bachar, Ty Taylor and DJ Leslee.
Tickets for the gala are now available. All proceeds benefit Operation Smile Los Angeles.
