John Goodman sustained a hip injury during the production of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s latest film starring Tom Cruise, which has delayed filming in the U.K. for Warner Bros, Variety has confirmed.
“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
Variety exclusively reported in October that production for Iñárritu’s untitled project was to kick off in the U.K. in November. The film is the director’s first English-language movie since 2016’s “The Revenant,” which earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first and only Oscar. Iñárritu also serves as producer and penned the script with Sabina Berman and “Birdman” co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. Plot details remain under wraps.
Other cast members include Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons and Sophie Wilde.
The film will be Cruise’s first project since penning a deal to develop and produce theatrical films for Warner Bros. back in January 2024. Cruise’s last collaboration with the studio was the time travel sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow,” which premiered over a decade ago.
As of late, Goodman, an Oscar winner, has been working mostly in the TV space. His recent credits include leading roles on shows like “The Conners,” “Monsters at Work,” “The Freak Brothers,” and “The Righteous Gemstones.” On the film side, Goodman is best known for his roles in “Monsters Inc.,” “Barton Fink,” “The Flintstones,” “The Big Lebowski,” “The Emperor’s New Groove” and “Flight.”
