“Severance” star John Turturro and Sony’s Tom Rothman will receive honors at the Museum of Moving Image’s annual benefit night, the Spring Moving Image Awards, on June 9.
The awards will be presented at the Sumner M. Redstone Theater, and a dinner will be held in the Hearst Lobby at the Queens, N.Y. museum.
Turturro returned to Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series “Severance” as Irving, an employee at the enigmatic Lumon company. He also appeared last year in the Pedro Almodóvar film “The Room Next Door” as Damian, a confidant to Julianne Moore’s character. Turturro won an Emmy in 2004 for his performance in the series, “Monk.”
Rothman is the chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group. In his position, he has overseen films such as “Little Women,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Rothman is also the founder of Fox Searchlight and previously served as Fox Filmed Entertainment’s chairman and CEO.
“From his early roles in Spike Lee’s films through his current acclaimed performance as Irving in ‘Severance,’ John Turturro has shown such an incredible range and humanistic approach to creating characters — a skill that also extends to the films he directed,” Ivan L. Lustig, co-chair of MoMI’s board of trustees, said in a statement. “With his long and excellent tenure as studio head, Tom Rothman is a legend in our time. We look forward to honoring both Tom and John at the Museum.”
The Spring Moving Image Awards serves as a fundraiser, and donations go toward MoMI’s programming.
“We thank both Tom Rothman and John Turturro for allowing us to honor them at the Museum, where we are experiencing incredible growth, and with exciting new developments on the horizon. Funds raised at the gala will go towards supporting all of our activities for our more than 250,000 annual visitors, from our acclaimed screening series to our education programs which attract more than 70,000 students a year,” Aziz Isham, MoMI’s Executive Director, said in a statement.
