Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s largest live-entertainment company, has announced the election of Richard Grenell to its board of directors.
Grenell, who President Trump recently appointed president of the embattled John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, has also served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Acting Director of National Intelligence, Presidential Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Negotiations and Presidential Envoy for Special Missions.
He has also worked as an on-air commentator for Newsmax.
“His career experience will help support Live Nation’s mission to bring more live music to the world, while also advocating for industry reforms that protect both fans and artists,” the announcement reads. Live Nation is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice for alleged antitrust activity.
Grenell joins a board that includes chairman Randall Mays (a former top executive at Clear Channel, now iHeartMedia), Maverick Carter (co-founder of the SpringHill Company), Ping Fu (co-founder of 3D imaging company Geomagic), Jeffrey T. Hinson (president of YouPlus Media and former top Univision exec), Chad Hollingsworth (senior VP at Liberty Media), Jimmy Iovine (former Apple and Interscope executive and co-founder of Beats by Dre), James Kahan (former AT&T executive), Gregory Maffei (Liberty Media president/CEO), Rich Paul (CEO and founder of Klutch Sports agency), Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino, and Latriece Watkins (exevutive VP at Walmart).
“We are pleased to welcome Ric to our Board,” said Randall Mays. “His background will bring a valuable perspective as Live Nation continues to contribute to a growing live music industry around the globe.”
“The power of live performances to bring people together while boosting local economies is transformative,” said Grenell. “I’m proud to join the board and support Live Nation’s efforts to grow this positive impact of concerts around the world.”
