The ultimate confrontation between good and evil is set to unfold as the long-running superhero anime sensation “My Hero Academia” prepares to take its final bow.
At the AnimeJapan 2025 expo in Tokyo, Toho Co., Ltd. revealed a teaser trailer and key art for the eighth and final season, which will pit protagonist Deku against the villain Shigaraki.
Set in a world where approximately 80% of the population possesses supernatural abilities known as Quirks, “My Hero Academia” chronicles the journey of Izuku Midoriya and his classmates at U.A. High School as they train to become professional heroes who protect society from villains who use their powers for nefarious purposes.
“My Hero Academia Final Season” will make its global debut this October, with Crunchyroll securing worldwide streaming rights (excluding Asia). The platform will continue its simulcast tradition, delivering new episodes to international audiences on the same day they air in Japan.
Returning to the director’s chair is Naomi Nakayama, who previously helmed the series’ seventh season in 2024. The anime adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s wildly popular manga wrapped its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump last August.
Series veteran Yosuke Kuroda (“Trigun”) continues his role handling series composition. Animation duties remain with studio Bones Film, whose portfolio includes beloved titles such as “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” “Soul Eater,” “Space Dandy,” “Bungo Stray Dogs,” “Mob Psycho 100,” and “Carole & Tuesday.”
The production team features several “My Hero Academia” mainstays, including chief director Kenji Nagasaki, character designers Yoshihiko Umakoshi (“Berserk”) and Hitomi Odashima, plus composer Yuki Hayashi, who has also created music for “Haikyu!!”
Toho Co., Ltd., the entertainment giant behind the series, was founded in 1932 and operates across four main business sectors: cinema, theatrical production, anime, and real estate. The company’s illustrious catalog includes the iconic “Godzilla” franchise, Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece “Seven Samurai,” and hit anime properties like “My Hero Academia” and “Jujutsu Kaisen.”
Crunchyroll operates as an independent joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.
