‘Presumed Innocent’ Season 2 Casts Rachel Brosnahan in Lead Role

Rachel Brosnahan is set to star in and executive produce “Presumed Innocent” Season 2 at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.

The first season of the series, which debuted in 2024, was based on the book of the same name by Scott Turow. The second season will be based on the book “Dissection of a Murder” by Jo Murray, which is due to be published in 2026.

Apple is not providing an official logline for the season, but the description from publisher Pan Macmillan states, “When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her.”

Brosnahan will star as Leila Reynolds.

David E. Kelley developed the series for television and serves as executive producer and co-showrunner under his David E. Kelley Productions (DEKP) banner. Erica Lipez (“We Were the Lucky Ones,” “The Morning Show”) will also serve as co-showrunner and executive producer on Season 2. J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive produce for Bad Robot Productions. Matthew Tinker of DEKP also executive produces. Jake Gyllenhaal, who starred in Season 1, will executive produce via Nine Stories. Turow is a co-executive producer. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

This will be Brosnahan’s first TV starring role since the conclusion of the hit Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Brosnahan led that series throughout its five season run at Prime Video. She was nominated for the Emmy for best actress in a comedy for all five seasons, winning the award in 2018. She also won two Golden Globes out of four nominations for her work in the series. Brosnahan also received an Emmy nomination in 2015 for her role in “House of Cards” at Netflix. She will next be seen in James Gunn’s highly-anticipated “Superman” film in the role of Lois Lane.

Brosnahan is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Schreck Rose, and The Lede Company.
