Smoke Apple TV+ Trailer Taron Egerton Jurnee Smollett


Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for the crime drama “Smoke” starring and executive produced by Taron Egerton. The series, which reunites the creative team behind Apple TV+’s “Black Bird,” will debut globally on Apple TV+ on June 27 with two episodes. 

Created and written by Dennis Lehane and inspired by true events, “Smoke” follows arson investigator Dave Gudsen (Egereton) who “begrudgingly teams up with police detective Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett) as their race to stop two arsonists ignites a twisted game of secrets and suspicions.” The cast of “Smoke” also features Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear and John Leguizamo. Thom Yorke wrote and performed the “Smoke” main title which is available on streaming platforms now. 

From Apple Studios, “Smoke” is created by Lehane, who also serves as writer and executive producer. Egerton executive produces alongside Richard Plepler on behalf of EDEN Productions and Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin through Imperative Entertainment as well as Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle and Jane Bartelme. 

Series is inspired by truth.media’s “Firebug” podcast, which was hosted by Kary Antholis who executive produces for Crime Story Media, LLC. Marc Smerling serves as executive producer for Truth Podcasting Corp. Series directors include Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay.

New episodes of “Smoke” premiere weekly every Friday through August 15.

RATINGS

“The Chi” season seven premiere drew 2 million viewers in multi-platform viewing, making it the most-streamed premiere in the show’s history according to Paramount. Created and executive-produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe, the series centers on a community of friends and family living on the South Side of Chicago. 

Falling under Waithe’s production company Hillman Grad, co-showrunners Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronal are executive producers alongside Academy Award and Emmy winner Common. Aaron Kaplan also executive produces with Rick Famuywia, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley, and Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia, as well as Naomi Funabashi and Hillman Grad CEO Rishi Rajani. Supervising producers Deondray Goosfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield directed several episodes in season seven.

“The Chi” releases new episodes weekly, streaming every Friday on Paramount+ and airs Sundays on Showtime.

EVENTS

Amazon’s Prime Video is launching a new initiative spotlighting women-led storytelling, anchored by a new trailer featuring female stars and Prime originals. According to a press release, the new campaign will include “platform merchandising, curated carousels, multi-title AV assets, social storytelling, and press and influencer events” that celebrate female creators, showrunners, and stars.

The new trailer features clips from Prime titles including “The Better Sister,” “Fallout,” “Another Simple Favor,” ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “Overcompensating,” “Motorheads,” “We Were Liars” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”

Prime Video’s new thematic focus reflects new research which found “Viewers seek emotionally resonant, personalized entertainment, especially among women 18–34 and 35+, the initiative’s dual core audiences.”

An industry luncheon will be held June 11 at the Crosby Hotel in New York City, serving as the centerpiece of the summer activation. The luncheon will feature remarks from Sue Kroll and a conversation between “The Summer I Turned Pretty” author/showrunner Jenny Han and star Lola Tung.
