Sony Pictures Television (“SPT”) has inked multi-year co-production deal with Anxo Rodríguez’s Spanish production company Espotlight (“The Farad,” “Un Nuevo Amanecer.”)
Under the deal, which further consolidates SPT’s presence in Spain, SPT will co-develop and co-produce new productions with Espotlight.
Rodríguez is a Goya Award-winning producer with a background in law and business affairs. He produced and exec produced documentary “Paco de Lucia: La Búsqueda” and worked as head of legal and business affairs on Netflix’s breakout Spanish hit “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”) and HBO’s “Foodie Love.” He launched Espotlight in early 2020 with the intent of making Spanish content for international markets. Current projects in development include “Dime tu Nombre” for Prime Video.
Rodríguez also owns talent agency Alter Ego Talent, which reps writers, directors, actors and composers.
“This deal underscores SPT’s intent to be in business locally in Spain and work with the best local players,” said Matthew Justice, SPT’s EVP and head of U.K. and Europe. “Anxo and the wider Espotlight team are proving that they have an incredible eye for content, working with some of Spain’s top creators, delivering amazing shows, and we are thrilled to join forces in order to produce great shows together for local and international audiences.”
Rodríguez added: “We are thrilled to get in business with Sony Pictures Television, this alliance will strengthen our ability to reach new clients and new audiences, SPT is showing a great ambition in the Spanish territory with a strategy very aligned to ours. Under this relationship we will be able to amplify the business strategies of our shows, exploit our ability to package great talent for the upcoming projects and build a stronger machinery for physical production.”
Earlier this year SPT launched football drama “La Academia,” their first Spanish-language scripted in the territory, while in 2023 they signed a talent deal with Alvaro Morte’s 300 Pistolas.
