Techno Music Drama ‘Rave On’ Boarded by The Playmaker

Sales agency The Playmaker has released the trailer for techno music drama “Rave On,” written and directed by Nikias Chryssos and Viktor Jakovleski. The Playmaker will be screening the film at the Cannes Film Market on May 15.

The film is a deep dive into Berlin’s club scene. It follows a musician over one night in a legendary techno club, which turns into a rave odyssey. Filmed at real parties in actual techno locations, “Rave On” is a “singular cinematic experience that blends a fictional narrative with a guerrilla documentary approach and immersive cinematography,” according to a statement.

The techno songs in the film are a mix of club classics and tracks exclusively created for the film by Ed Davenport and John Gürtler (“System Crasher”) and other Berlin-based techno artists.

The film stars Aaron Altaras (“The Zweiflers”) and Clemens Schick (“Dogman,” “Andor,” “Das Boot”), and features DJs like Chicago-legend Hieroglyphic Being and up-and-coming DJ Lucia Lu.

“Rave On” is a German production produced by Andro Steinborn (U.S. remake of “Funny Games”) from Telos Pictures in co-production with Hessischer Rundfunk/ARTE. It is supported by BKM, HessenFilm and DFFF. German distributor Weltkino will release “Rave On” in German cinemas on July 31.

Steinborn said: “Techno music is one of the most important German cultural exports and ‘Rave On’ is raw and real as the music itself, an authentic and rare cinematic rollercoaster to bring that culture to the big screen.”

Moritz Hemminger, head of sales and acquisitions at The Playmaker, said: “ ‘Rave On’ is a love letter to techno music and Berlin’s nightlife. Our international distributors are in for a wild ride.”
