Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie will attend the 78th Cannes Film Festival to serve as the Godmother of the Trophée Chopard.
Created in 2001, the award celebrates emerging international cinema talent, each year honouring one actress and one actor with promising careers. Previous recipients of the prestigious award include Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger, Léa Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Niels Schneider, Jeremy Irvine and Joe Alwyn.
Jolie will present the trophy to rising stars Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett during a ceremony on Carlton Beach on May 16. The event will take place during a dinner co-hosted by festival president Iris Knobloch, festival chief Thierry Frémaux and Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele.
“I am so happy to welcome Angelina Jolie as our Trophée Chopard Godmother,” stated Scheufele. “Her amazing film career and dedication to making a difference in the world make her an ideal role model. I know the rising talents we honour this year will be inspired by her journey and advice.”
Added Jolie: “I am honored to be Godmother at the Cannes Film Festival. I am pleased to have a moment to recognize young artists and their exceptional work.”
