Bruce Springsteen is providing more insight to his upcoming biopic starring Jeremy Allen White, saying that “The Bear” star “sings very well” in the film.
Titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” the Scott Cooper-directed movie follows Springsteen in the early ’80s as he writes his personal sixth album “Nebraska.” Both Springsteen and his manager, Jon Landau — who will be portrayed by “Succession’s” Jeremy Strong — have been actively involved in the production, with Springsteen visiting set multiple times.
In an interview with Sirius XM’s “E Street Radio” host Jim Rotolo on Thursday, Springsteen admitted that it was “a little” weird at first to watch someone play a younger version of him.
“But you get over that pretty quick,” he said. “And Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize. He’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
White is also singing in the film, and his vocal chops have the Boss’ approval.
“He sings well, he sings very well,” Springsteen told Rotolo. “And Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, there’s just a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully so, it’s very exciting.”
Back in June, White confirmed his plans to sing and play guitar in the biopic to Variety‘s Marc Malkin, saying: “We’re going to try our best.” He expanded upon that in a GQ profile in August, confirming that he has been working with a vocal coach and watching hours of footage of the rock star.
“I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing,” White said. “I’m also really lucky [that] Bruce is really supportive of the film, and so I’ve had some access to him and he’s just the greatest guy.”
