Cam Ward Documentary ‘Zero Star’ in Production
A documentary centered on Miami quarterback Cam Ward is in production from Firebrand Media. The doc will be a part of a 10-episode series titled “Zero Star,” about thriving athletes who were once considered “zero star” recruits, meaning they were unranked and unscouted.
Ward, who was a high school athlete with only one college offer, is now the superstar QB for University of Miami and a top candidate for this year’s Heisman Trophy.
“Being overlooked, in my shoes it was a blessing and a curse. The blessing part is that you have nothing to lose,” Ward says in “Zero Star.”
The docuseries will include 10 episodes, each one focusing on a different “zero star” athlete. Ward is the focus of the premiere episode, which will have a runtime of approximately 75-90 minutes, while the subsequent episodes in development will run between 45 and 50 minutes.
Firebrand Media, which is currently in production on “Zero Star” and will serve as the distributor, is “in talks with several high-profile present and former NFL players as well as college athletes” for the remaining nine episodes.
Ward is signed under Firebrand’s Fifteen58 Sports Management vertical.
“It was hard to see my Cam struggle as a young man who never got the faith from coaches and others in his abilities and qualities as a competitor,” said Ward’s mother, Patrice Ward, in a statement. “He’s proven the whole world wrong and he will continue to do so for many years. I’m happy the world can now see who Cameron Ward really is — a star.”
Alec Griffen Roth said, “It’s an amazing honor to direct this documentary. Cam’s story captures what we love about cinema and real life, the underdog, the hero’s epic.”
“‘Zero Star’ is more than just Cam’s story; it’s the first in a series that will amplify the voices of those who rise above the odds,” added Robby Clifford, a partner and head of sports at Firebrand.
