As much as Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton have grown up in the years since their breakout reality show “The Simple Life,” which helped revolutionize reality TV in the early aughts, the iconic duo are proving that age really is just a number.
Twenty years later, the old friends and high society darlings have rebooted the show in the form of a three-part series titled “Paris & Nicole: Encore,” now streaming on Peacock. Primarily set in L.A, the show follows the pair as they revisit old friends in their hometown, before beginning their quest to stage a two-person opera based on “sanasa” — an IYKYK word they made up in the original show. The playful mission is an update on the premise of the original show, which saw Richie and Hilton take on blue-collar jobs, ranging from fast food workers to hotel maids.
“What they lack in musical acumen and the general knowledge of the arts, they’ll have to make up elsewhere,” a man voices over in the trailer. “Because if there’s one thing that can be said about these two, is that they don’t give up easily.”
Talking to the New York Times about the differences between filming “The Simple Life” and the reboot, Richie said “It was very different just in the sense of we were clocking in and clocking out every day, so we were not out of town.”
“I’d say the biggest difference is that when we did ‘The Simple Life,’ we were signing up to do someone else’s show,” she continued. “And ‘Encore’ is a show that we created, that we produced, and we just had a lot of fun doing it.”
