Javier Bardem to Star in ‘The Beloved’ for Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen

Javier Bardem is set to star in “The Beloved,” a Spanish-language family drama from multiple Goya Award-winning writer-director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (“The Realm,” “The Beasts”).

The film — also starring Victoria Luengo (“The Room Next Door”) — is a drama about an estranged father-daughter. Jardem plays a temperamental film director who is forced to work with his daughter, an aspiring actress, on a project. They must confront their painful past while navigating the power dynamics of their professional relationship. Sorogoyen wrote the screenplay.

The film is being produced by Sorogoyen’s Madrid production label Caballo Films, with Movistar Plus+ and Le Pacte co-producing. The latter will release the movie in France.

Bardem earned a Golden Globe nomination this year for his turn in Netflix’s limited series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez.” He was last seen in “Dune: Part Two” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” live-action remake, while he also lent his voice to “Spellbound.” His last Spanish-language film was the 2021 black comedy “The Good Boss” which represented Spain int he Oscar race in 2022.

Sorogoyen most recently directed “The New Years,” a series which world premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year. His previous film “The Beasts” won Best Foreign Film at the César Awards in France and was a box office success in several countries.
