In a move that underscores the global influence of Korean entertainment, the Banff World Media Festival (BANFF) has named Korea as its inaugural Country of Honor for the 2025 edition.

The recognition comes as Korean content continues its rise in the international entertainment landscape, with the 46th annual festival set to showcase the nation’s creative prowess from June 8-11 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta, Canada.

“We are thrilled to recognize Korea as our inaugural Country of Honour,” said Jenn Kuzmyk, executive director of BANFF. “Korea has emerged as a powerhouse in global entertainment, captivating audiences worldwide with its innovative storytelling and world-class productions.”

The partnership with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) will bring a delegation of top Korean producers, industry leaders and talent to the Canadian Rockies, with Yoo-Hyun-seok, acting president of KOCCA, emphasizing the significance of the collaboration: “Korea’s presence at BANFF underscores the strength and appeal of K-content on a global scale. We are excited to showcase the depth and diversity of our creative industry while building meaningful partnerships that will shape the future of entertainment.”

K-content will be prominently featured throughout the festival programming, culminating in a tribute during the Rockie Awards ceremony on June 9 that will celebrate Korea’s cultural impact on the worldwide media landscape.

The festival — a premier destination for media industry professionals that hosts over 1,200 networking sessions and facilitates more than 25,000 meetings — credited Esther Song of Song Group and Banff Television Festival Foundation Board member Jeniffer Kim for their instrumental roles in bringing this initiative to fruition.

This year’s BANFF promises high-profile keynotes including Tubi CEO Anjali Sud and Sony Pictures Television chair Keith Le Goy, as industry leaders gather against the backdrop of the Canadian Rockies to forge partnerships and spark new collaborations in television, digital media and beyond.
