Marianne Métivier’s ‘The Splendour of Life’ Picked Up by H264
H264, a Montreal-based film distribution and international sales company, has acquired the world sales and Canadian distribution rights for Marianne Métivier‘s first feature film “The Splendour of Life.”
The film stars Camille Rutherford (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Garance Marillier (“Raw”), Amaryllis Tremblay (“Genèse”) and Kyrie Samodio (“Hito”). It follows two narrative threads, one in the countryside and one in the city. Four women’s lives are transformed by an encounter and choose to close or open a new chapter in their lives. The film is “a sensual invitation to live life to the fullest,” according to a statement.
The film is produced by Geneviève Gosselin-G. at Le Foyer Films in Canada, and executive produced by Wilfredo Manalang at Fusee in the Philippines, and associate produced by Alexa Rivero at Altamar Films in France.
Métivier is a Québécoise-Filippina writer and director from Montreal. Her short film “She Who Wears the Rain” (2019) was selected at the Berlinale Shorts Competition in 2020. She is developing her first documentary “Back Home,” for which she received a development grant at the Talent Lab of the Montreal Intl. Documentary Festival in 2020. “The Splendour of Life” was selected by Torino Feature Lab in 2023.
Her work “mainly explores the sense of belonging to places and our relationship to the intangible,” according to a statement.
Jean-Christophe J. Lamontagne and Stephanie Demers, co-presidents at H264, said, “After the success of Marianne Métivier’s short film ‘She Who Wears the Rain’ at Berlin Shorts 2020, we are thrilled to collaborate with her again. We believe ‘The Splendour of Life’ will leave a significant mark on the industry.”
Gosselin-G stated: “This partnership underscores our shared commitment to promoting distinctive and ambitious cinematic projects. We believe that H264 is the perfect partner to carry forward and bring Marianne’s vision to the audience.”
