Nicole Kidman’s ‘Babygirl’ Hits $50 Million Global Box Office

A24‘s provocative drama “Babygirl” has surpassed $50 million at the global box office, with international markets delivering $22.6 million and domestic earnings reaching $27.4 million, per numbers provided by the studio.

Directed by Halina Reijn, the film, starring Kidman alongside Harris Dickinson, Sophie Wilde and Antonio Banderas, follows a powerful CEO whose life unravels after an affair with a younger intern.

International performance has been particularly robust. In Ukraine, “Babygirl” has become A24’s highest-grossing release ever, earning $685,000 across 190 screens and outperforming mainstream studio releases. The Netherlands, Reijn’s home country, has contributed $4.27 million, while the U.K. opened strongly with $1.3 million, ranking among the year’s top R-rated debuts alongside “Poor Things” and “Smile 2.”

Scandinavian markets have exceeded expectations, with the film claiming the top spot in Denmark during its opening week. The combined Scandinavian total has reached $2.1 million. In Poland, the film has become A24’s second-highest-grossing opening ever, while Romania reports it as the distributor’s highest-grossing film in the territory at $432,000.

The CIS region has embraced the film with a $672,000 opening, surpassing comparable titles like “Anora,” “Marry Me,” “A Star Is Born” and “A Simple Favor.” France and Spain have also shown strong results, with cumes of $1.54 million and $809,000 respectively. In Belgium and Luxembourg, the film has maintained strong momentum, ranking second in admissions for two consecutive weekends with only a 5.5% drop, accumulating $431,000.

Cultural impact has extended beyond box office numbers. In the U.S., the film has drawn significant attention for its viral milk scene and the resurgence of George Michael’s ’80s hit “Father Figure.” While initially attracting an older female audience, the film has expanded its appeal with males now comprising nearly half of viewers, according to A24.

Leading Spanish newspaper El Pais has covered nationwide conversations among women aged 54-64 about mature female representation in cinema. In Ukraine and Denmark, mental health professionals are using the film to facilitate discussions about female sexuality and ageing.

The $50 million milestone places “Babygirl” within A24’s elite circle of highest-grossing films worldwide. The distributor’s top performers now include “Everything Everywhere All at Once” ($143.4 million), “Civil War” ($127. 3 million), “Talk to Me” ($92.1 million), “Hereditary” ($87.8 million), “Lady Bird” ($78.9 million), “Moonlight” ($65.1 million), “The Whale” ($57.6 million), “The Zone of Interest” ($52.6 million), “Heretic” ($52.2), and “Babygirl” ($50 million). The film’s success has been further validated by critical acclaim, including Kidman’s best actress win at the Venice Film Festival.
