‘Queer Eye’ Star Bobby Berk Joins Cricket Comedy ‘Strikers’
Red Hill Creative is stepping up to bat with “Strikers,” a new cricket-centered comedy series starring “Queer Eye” personality Bobby Berk and creator-actor Dana Abraham. The six-episode, half-hour series is set to begin production in summer 2025.
The indie project follows Amar Farooqi (Abraham), a former MLB pitcher whose career-ending injury leads him back to his South Asian roots via the cricket field. When steel company heir AJ Joshi (Shaun Majumder) and his publicist niece Maya (Nazanin Mandi) recruit him to revitalize their struggling cricket team, the Steel City Strikers, Amar finds an unexpected second chance at sports glory, guided by his struggling but well-connected manager Mickey (Berk).
For Abraham, who serves as both star and co-creator alongside Berk, the project represents a personal journey. “Growing up as an immigrant in Canada, I leaned toward assimilation and lost touch with my South Asian roots,” Abraham says. “This project is an opportunity to rediscover where I come from while crafting a story that feels both universal and deeply personal.”
Berk, who also takes on executive producer duties, emphasizes the show’s unifying themes: “This show is about finding common ground – celebrating the power of collaboration, no matter where you come from.”
In an unconventional move, Red Hill Creative plans to independently produce the first season, aiming to maintain creative control and ensure the series debuts ahead of cricket’s Olympic premiere at the Los Angeles Games. Tony Williams (“Neon Lights”) joins Abraham as producer, while Berk, Silvera, Majumder and Danny Treibatch round out the executive producing team.
Executive producer Jacob Silvera, who’s spearheading sales efforts, notes the project’s timing and appeal: “There has been a growing appetite for independent TV series, and ‘Strikers’ stands out with its strong global licensing potential and broad audience appeal.”
Production is expected to wrap by summer 2026, with announcements regarding additional creative team members, distribution plans, and premiere dates forthcoming.
The project marks a significant milestone for Red Hill Creative, formerly Red Hill Entertainment, which Abraham and Qamar Qureshi co-founded in 2020. The company, recently rebranded and relocated to Hamilton, Ontario and Los Angeles, has previously produced features including “She Came Back,” “Neon Lights,” and “A Hundred Lies.” The new name pays tribute to Hamilton’s Red Hill Creek while embodying Abraham’s mission to amplify underrepresented voices in the entertainment industry.
