Selma Blair Returns to Acting With Three New Movies
Selma Blair is back.
The “Cruel Intentions” star is returning with three new movies, including the Israel-Hamas war drama “Stay Forte” with Judd Hirsch and the brothers Mark and Michael Polish’s “There There.” She will also star in supernatural thriller “Silent” from filmmaking duo Doron and Yoaz Paz.
Blair, who went public with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018, hinted she had projects in the works when I spoke with her at the Elle Women in Hollywood dinner in November: “I started feeling really better this last year and I’m back at work and doing things so I will have things to announce.
“Stay Forte,” directed by Israeli filmmaker Doron Eran, tells the story of Alon Shamiriz, Yotam Haim and Samer Tallaka, three Israelis taken hostage by Hamas during its Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel.
“This film is not just a narrative; it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the bonds that unite us against unimaginable tragedy,” Blair said in a statement. “I am honored to be part of this journey, which truly reflects the diverse fabric of Israeli society—people of many religions caught in the crossfire of conflict.” Blair faced backlash last year for a media comment she posted about Islam, but later apologized for “a terrible err in my words [that] resulted in hurting countless people I never meant to, and I deeply regret this.”
Written by Omri Rose and Tomer Almagor, “Stay Forte” is produced by Eran and Almagor, with Ron Zuckerman serving as executive producer through Eran’s CinemaVeda, LTD, along with U.S. company, Urban Tales Productions with Gabrielle Almagor serving as casting director and executive producer.
Hirsch said, “I’m honored to be a part of this very important project. It is one of the most moving experiences of my whole life. To participate in sharing this story with the world is something so personally important to me. I have the utmost praise and respect for this team of courageous filmmakers.”
Eron praised Blair’s performance: “Selma brings unparalleled depth and authenticity to her role. This film is not merely entertainment; it’s an eye-opening tribute to those enduring unimaginable hardships. It underscores the urgent need for compassion and understanding in the face of war.”
In “Silent,” Blair stars as Skylar, a sound designer who finds herself fighting ancient evil forces that are unlocked while she’s working on the restoration of a silent film.
The Polish brothers’ “There There” follows twin brothers who didn’t know each other existed for 40 years. It is two films in one, with Mark Polish directing the story told by one twins’ perspective while Michael directed the other twin’s story. The filmmakers didn’t show each other their works until they were completed. Blair has a supporting role in “There There” as one of the brother’s former love interests.
The film marks the brothers’ first movie together in more than a decade. The cast also includes Gretchen Mol, Corbin Bernsen and Shannyn Sossamon.
Blair is represented by Berlandi Nussbaum & Reitzas LLP, WME and Jill Fritzo PR.
