‘Snow White,’ ‘Ne Zha 2’ Rule U.K., Ireland Box Office
Disney’s “Snow White” took the crown at the U.K. and Ireland box office over the weekend, debuting with a strong £3.8 million ($5 million), according to Comscore. The reimagining of the classic fairy tale led a competitive field of new releases and set the tone for the upcoming Easter holiday period.
In second place, Trinity Filmed Entertainment’s animated fantasy sequel “Ne Zha 2” earned $1.6 million. The Chinese blockbuster, which continues the mythological story of its 2019 predecessor, became one of the highest openings for a Chinese film in the territory. It has earned more than $2 billion worldwide and is the highest-grossing animated film of all time and the fifth highest grosser ever.
Universal’s “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy” continued its remarkable run in third place, earning $1 million in its sixth weekend. The romcom sequel has now grossed $57.6 million, solidifying its position as the highest-grossing U.K. release of the year so far.
Universal’s thriller “Black Bag” followed closely behind in fourth with $953,565, bringing its total to $2.9 million after two weeks. Warner Bros.’ sci-fi feature “Mickey 17” landed in fifth place with $946,757 in its third weekend. The Bong Joon Ho film, starring Robert Pattinson, has now reached $7.6 million.
Curzon’s “Flow” debuted in sixth place with $533,270, while Warner Bros.’ crime drama “The Alto Knights,” starring Robert De Niro, opened in seventh $503,287.
True Brit Entertainment’s “Marching Powder” was at eighth with $172,398, pushing its three-week total to $3.4 million. Universal’s “Dog Man” continues its momentum in ninth place, earning $328,317 in its seventh week. The animated title has now banked a healthy $17.1 million.
Rounding out the top 10 is Disney’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” which added $128,148 in its sixth weekend. The MCU entry has now reached $23 million.
A wide-ranging slate of new releases is headed to U.K. and Ireland cinemas this week. Kicking things off on Wednesday, March 26, Trafalgar Releasing brings “Imagine Dragons: Live From The Hollywood Bowl (With The LA Film Orchestra)” to the big screen. The concert film captures the Grammy-winning band performing live with orchestral accompaniment.
On Thursday, March 27, Dreamz Entertainment debuts Telugu-language comedy sequel “Mad Square,” while the National Theatre screens “Dr. Strangelove – NT Live 2025,” a theatrical adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s iconic Cold War satire, continuing the NT Live series of filmed stage productions.
A busy Friday, March 28 sees the release of Telluride and Toronto title “The End” from Mubi, directed by Joshua Oppenheimer and starring Tilda Swinton, George MacKay and Michael Shannon. Warner Bros. launches “A Working Man,” a Jason Statham vehicle rolling out across more than 300 screens.
Paramount is opening wide “Novocaine,” a dark comedy from directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, and Betty Gabriel. Picturehouse Entertainment offers “La Cocina,” directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios and starring Rooney Mara and Raúl Briones, set in the frenetic kitchen of a New York restaurant.
Quiver Distribution presents “Irena’s Vow,” a WWII-set drama starring Sophie Nélisse and Dougray Scott, while Conic’s “War Paint – Women At War” is a documentary shining a light on the trailblazing role of women war artists. New Wave brings comedy crime drama “Misericordia,” from French filmmaker Alain Guiraudie.
Dartmouth Films unveils “The Stimming Pool,” a collectively directed experimental documentary exploring neurodivergent experience. Jade Films adds Stephen Fry comedy “Time Travel Is Dangerous” to the lineup, and Magnetes Pictures distributes the Polish fantasy title “Kleks I Wynalazek Filipa Golarza.” Universal is bowing horror thriller “The Woman In The Yard.”
Ahead of the Eid festival, Bakrania Media releases “Sikandar,” an action-packed Hindi-language film from director A.R. Murugadoss, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, expected to attract South Asian audiences across 100+ locations. Dreamz Entertainment has Telugu-language action film “Robinhood,” while Moviegoers Entertainment reintroduces “The Legend Of Maula Jatt,” the acclaimed Pakistani action epic that continues to enjoy a global cult following.
