The Match Factory Secures Multiple Deals for ‘Miroirs No. 3’
The Match Factory has closed multiple distribution deals for the new Christian Petzold feature “Miroirs No. 3” ahead of its world premiere as part of the Directors’ Fortight lineup in Cannes.
As previously announced Metrograph Pictures will distribute the film in North America. Additionally, The Match Factory has secured distribution in France (Les Films du Losange), Benelux (Imagine Film Distribution), South Korea (M&M International), Austria (Stadtkino Filmverleih), Turkey (Yeni Bir Film), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), former Yugoslavia (Demiurg), Romania (Independenta Film), and the Baltics (A-One Film).
The film follows Laura, a piano student from Berlin. On a weekend trip to the countryside, Laura miraculously survives a car crash. Physically unhurt but deeply shaken, she is taken in by a local woman who witnessed the accident and now cares for Laura with motherly devotion. When her husband and adult son also give up their initial resistance to Laura’s presence, the four of them slowly build up some family-like routine and spend some days of happiness together. But soon they can no longer ignore their past, and Laura has to come to terms with her own life.
Petzold is a highly acclaimed contemporary auteur. This marks the fourth collaboration between the director and actor Paula Beer, who won the Berlin Silver Bear for her performance in his film “Undine” (Berlinale 2020). Their last film together, “Afire,” won the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale in 2023.
The cast also includes Barbara Auer (“The Book Thief,” “Yella”), Matthias Brandt (“Transit,” “Farewell to Europe”) and Enno Trebs (“Afire,” “The White Ribbon”).
“Miroirs No. 3” is produced by Schramm Film Koerner Weber Kaiser, continuing the company’s long-time collaboration with Petzold, and in co-production with ZDF and Arte. The film is funded by Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM), Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF) and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB).
The Match Factory represents the director’s library, which includes “Afire” (2023), “Undine” (2020), “Transit” (2018), “Phoenix” (2014) and “Barbara” (2012), as well as early works such as “The State I Am In” (2000).
