‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Day of the Jackal’ Among Banff Rockie Awards Winners
Peacock’s “The Day of the Jackal” and “We Are Lady Parts” were among this year’s big winners at Monday night’s Banff Rockie Awards International Program Competition, winning the English-language drama and comedy series awards, respectively. Other big winners included Fox’s “The Simpsons,” for animated series, and the Disney+ doc “Jim Henson Idea Man” for arts & culture.
The UK won 16 awards overall, the most of any country, followed by the US with nine. The Banff World Media Festival merged its Banff Gala Awards and Rockie Awards International Program Competition into a single ceremony during this year’s festival, for the first time.
The Banff Gala Awards honor “visionary executives, creatives, and changemakers shaping the global media landscape,” while the Rockie Awards International Program Competition focuses on TV and digital media. This year’s Rockie Awards International Program Competition includes 152 nominees from 22 countries across 30 categories.
Gala honorees included Hans Zimmer (“Dune: Part One,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “No Time to Die,” “Gladiator,” “Inception”), who was this year’s recipient of the career achievement award. Also, Stephan James (“If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Surface”), who was given the Canadian Award of Distinction, presented by the Canada Media Fund (CMF/FMC) and MadeNous, which is given to “a Canadian whose body of work exemplifies outstanding achievement in the entertainment industry.”
Also, Phil Rosenthal (“Somebody Feed Phil,” “Everybody Loves Raymond”) was given the Award of Excellence, which “acknowledges exceptional achievement through a body of work over an extended period of time.” And South Korea was selected as this year’s “country of honor,” as accepted by KOCCA prexy Hyun Suk Yoo.
