Unifrance Unveiles Series Mania Coming Next from French Titles
Unifrance has unveiled its extensive lineup for the 15th edition of Series Mania, set for March 21 to 28. This year, the festival will showcase a selection of 48 series from 20 countries, including 22 French shows, promising a feast for the eyes of TV enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.
The Series Mania Forum, the festival’s industry component, will run March 25 to 27, welcoming over 4,200 professionals from more than 70 countries. In this context, Unifrance will host the tenth Coming Next from France on March 25, spotlighting five new French series poised to make waves on the international market. These series, including France TV’s “Kitchen Hustle,” Have a Good One’s “Fake,” Mediawan Rights’ “Don’t Know,” Newen Content’s “Montmartre” and Oble’s “Jailbreakers,” have been selected to demonstrate the diversity and innovation of French scripted TV.
Produced by CG Cinema, “Kitchen Hustle” turns on three women who dream of working in high-end dining but encounter an elitist, misogynistic and toxic environment. In Good Cop’s “Fake,” Victoire, a medical secretary and graphic designer, breaks bad when her family finds itself deeply in debt. Victoire uses her natural talent for counterfeiting to forge paper.
“Don’t Know,” produced by 3e Œil Story, unspools during a school trip turned into a nightmare when a young girl disappears. “Montmartre,” from Banijay’s Authentic Prod, is a 19th-century period story about a cancan dancer looking for clues about her father’s murder. And Le Méredienne’s “Jailbreakers” unspools inside a juvenile detention facility where a 17-year-old looking for her mother infiltrates a group of inmates planning an escape.
French drama continues to shine on the global stage, with 2023 exports reaching €74.5 million ($77.8 million), a significant increase from the ten-year average of €54.9 million ($57.3 million). Scripted drama remains the leading export for the second consecutive year, accounting for 36.6% of total sales.
Unifrance’s presence at Series Mania extends beyond the screen. The organization will partner with the Series Mania Forum to host welcome drinks on March 24, kicking off the professional meetings with an international flair. Additionally, Unifrance will provide its members with a dedicated space in the Business Lounge for networking and meetings.
French shows will feature prominently across all sections of the festival, from the Opening and Closing ceremonies to the International Competition, Panorama, and more. Esteemed figures from French TV and cinema, including actress Karin Viard and composer Victor Le Masne, will grace the juries, adding a touch of star power to the event.
