Let’s travel together.

Varada Sethu Joins Ncuti Gatwa

There’s officially a new companion in the Whoniverse.

The first teaser for the second season of Disney+ and the BBC’s “Doctor Who” introduces Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, who assertively tells Ncuti Gatwa‘s Doctor: “You need to get me home!” The clip seems to tease an apocalyptic invasion of some sort, with spaceships and robots roaming about as Gatwa exclaims, “What the hell is this?!” Gibson’s Ruby Sunday, Gatwa’s Season 1 companion, also makes an appearance — dispelling for good rumors that she wouldn’t be returning for another chapter.

The official synopsis for the season, which is set to premiere next year, states: “The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.”

The first look premiered on Wednesday following the debut of this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special. Titled “Joy to the World,” the episode sees “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan team up with the Doctor for a dinosaur-themed adventure.

Coughlan plays new character Joy, who checks into a London hotel and accidentally “opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel — discovering danger, dinosaurs and the Doctor,” the episode’s synopsis reads. “But a deadly plan is unfolding across the Earth, just in time for Christmas. What is going on in Joy’s hotel room? An old enemy of the Doctor’s is lurking in the wings and all of human history hangs in the balance. Can the Doctor save Christmas, everywhere, all at once?”

Russell T Davies serves as showrunner and executive producer for “Doctor Who.” Additional executive producers are Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. The show is produced by Bad Wolf, with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
