Yuvraj Singh Biopic Set at India’s T-Series
Cricket sensation Yuvraj Singh‘s remarkable journey from prodigy to World Cup hero to cancer survivor is getting the biopic movie treatment.
Prolific Indian studio T-Series head Bhushan Kumar has revealed a film chronicling the life and career of the Indian cricketing icon, which captures Singh’s triumphs both on and off the field. Kumar, known for backing high-profile projects like “Animal,” “Drishyam 2,” “Kabir Singh” and “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior,” is joining forces with producer Ravi Bhagchandka to bring Singh’s story to life. Bhagchandka will co-produce via 200 Not Out Cinema. The biopic marks the second time Bhagchandka has brought a cricketer’s life to the big screen, following the 2017 Sachin Tendulkar documentary “Sachin: A Billion Dreams.”
Singh debuted in the Punjab Under-16 cricket team aged 13. In the 2000 Under-19 World Cup, which India won, Singh was player of the tournament and was inducted into the senior team. He quickly became known for his aggressive left-handed batting style and electric fielding. His career reached new heights during India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning campaign, where he famously hit six sixes in a single over against England bowler Stuart Broad. The film is expected to recreate this iconic moment, along with Singh’s pivotal contributions to India’s 2011 World Cup victory, where he was player of the series.
However, Singh’s story extends beyond his on-field heroics. In 2011, he was diagnosed with cancer. His subsequent battle and triumphant return to cricket in 2012 captivated the Indian public and solidified his status as an inspiration to millions. Singh also found success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2019.
Kumar said: “Yuvraj Singh’s life is a compelling narrative of resilience, triumph, and passion. His journey from a promising cricketer to a cricketing hero, and then to a hero in real life, is truly inspiring. I am thrilled to bring a story that needs to be told and heard through the big screen and to celebrate his extraordinary achievements.”
Singh added: “I am deeply honored that my story will be showcased to millions of my fans across the globe by Bhushan-ji and Ravi. Cricket has been my greatest love and source of strength through all the highs and lows. I hope this film inspires others to overcome their own challenges and pursue their dreams with unwavering passion.”
Bhagchandka said: “Yuvraj has been a dear friend for many years. I’m honored that he trusted us to translate his incredible cricketing journey into a cinematic experience. Yuvi is not just a world champion but a true legend in every sense of the word.”
The director and cast on the project is being finalized.
